Stephen Collins was born on Oct. 1, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa.  He married Faye Grant on Apr. 21, 1985, and together they have a daughter. Stephen loves baseball and when he was working on the movie "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" he played on a team with other Star Trek cast members.  Stephen has put his director's cap on twice for 7th Heaven and directed the episodes "Nothing Endures But Change" and "Paranoia."  Stephen's favorite movie is "A Christmas Carol" starring Alastair Sim and his favorite musicians are Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, and Brian Wilson.  His favorite color is apricot-peach and his favorite baseball team is the New York Mets.  Stephen also plays the bass and rhythm guitars.  Stephen never auditioned for his role on 7th Heaven and is surprised the show has done as well as it has.  Stephen said that he lives 10 minutes from where he films 7th Heaven and likes being that close so he can get home quickly to his own family.

Stephen Collins plays Eric Camden  on the hit tv series "7th Heaven". Eric, whose occupation is pastor of the Glen Oak Community Church, is a husband and father of seven.  Eric tends to be nosy and persistent, but he wears his heart on his sleeve for everyone to see.  He's not a handyman around the house, however his ability to meet any crisis head on with strength and authority has made him vital to the family's survival.  Eric's strength in ministry is his ability to offer counsel.

In the fifth season, Eric decided to send his troubled daughter Mary to Buffalo to live with his parents.  Later that year, stressed at the news that she had run away to come home, he forgot his own birthday.  In the sixth season, Eric tried to stop Matt from marrying Sarah because he disagreed with him converting without knowing enough to make that decision.  He later accepted Matt's decision, though Matt said he wasn't ready yet to convert.  Eric along with Sarah's father Rabbi Glass officiated the wedding ceremony.  In the fourth season, Eric suffered a mild heart attack brought about from high stress and unbalanced diet.  In season seven, Eric will suffer more serious heart problems forcing him to undergo a double bypass surgery. The surgery caused him (he can't work) to come to the conclusion that he wants to quit being a minister because he is tired of helping people.
